In my opinion The Best Employer Brand Image of the firm will certainly be affected by these type of incidents, but the impact of these incidents will depends on how big is the brand image.If this type of incidents occurs repeatedly in a firm then definitely the firm will loose its competitive advantage in job market. The brands like Infosys and TCS will have a small impact and for short duration. While going through the blog I read about the organisation ethics, I do agree that the cancellation of job offer is against the organisation ethics and it will damage The Best Employer Brand Image and thereby reduce the competitive advantage. But in the economic slowdown if all the other firms are cutting cost to get the competitive advantage in the business then one has to take this type of unpleasant decision to be in the business even though these are against the ethics.
In second case Infosys spokesperson is trying to safeguard his firm by taking the help of legal terminology " Intent of offer". They could have avoided this misunderstanding if they had explained the difference between the letter of Intent and job offer to the candidates at the time of recruitment.
If I was a placement officer, I would have worked on three options to resolve the placement issue. First convince the existing placement firms to stick to their commitments or take at lease some of the candidates.Second - invited other firms for placements. Third - would have analysed the past data of effect of slowdown and boom of economy on the employment market of different industry sectors and then would have decided the campus recruitment dates.
No none of my friend had gone through such type of experience.
